iPARK (APP)

HCI+ Interaction Design + Prototyping User Interface + Usability Testing

CONTEXT

In INFO I-300 Human Computer Interaction, our group was faced with the challenge of designing an app based on the UX research method so that we can perform a Guerilla Usability test. We were required to define tasks and scenarios and write a usability report as well as present an overview and a prototype of our app in front of the class. The team consisted of Matt Briskey, Alec Richards, Alex Wenger, and me.

MY ROLE

I was key in brainstorming what our app would be and creating both the paper and digital prototypes. I instructed my teammates which buttons led to which screens in order to keep the order. This was difficult because we had over 17 screens and interactions and the order of the screens was key to creating the prototype. We were able to figure out which interactions we were missing and produce a good final prototype.

OUTCOME

The prototype received an overall positive feedback from the users taking our usability test. Despite our users being aware of the limitations found in the general prototype, a suggestion we received from them was to improve the flow of the menu with all the parking permits. Instead of having to click the menu icon on the upper left corner of the screen, the flow would be much better if they could click the map to make the menu disappear. We ended up proposing a redesign of our app to address the user's needs.

PROTOTYPE

Below are the key screens for our prototype. Because the targeted audience is IU students, this app would likely be developed by IU, and therefore the design of this app is based off of the official IU brand. The prototype is no longer available on inVision.
